Do Christians have to pay tithes?

A teaching of a big question

TITHING & GIVING

By the Lord’s Apostle Nazareth H. Machon

I have been chosen by the Lord and this in a time I knew nothing and in a country I did not know and did not know their culture and their preachers. All the most I heard from this pastors is giving, giving, giving and tithes you must give tithes and it was all so resisting in me.

Not that i say it was resisting to give, but resisting to give for a lie and money hungry wolf's.

Over the time I was meeting many pastors and went into many churches in many countries and it is all over the same, only a few a very little number who does stay in the way of the Lord and I realized, my resisting was right as I learned about the scriptures by reading myself!

We must read the bible in order to resist these and other false teachings in the end time where we are living!

Only if we read and if we read together with the Holy Spirit, we will understand and do the right thing!

2nd Corinthians 9:7

7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. KJV

What the Bible says about tithes

The Three Types of Tithing

Has anyone taught you about these three Types of Tithes?

1. The Levitical, or Sacred Tithe (Leviticus 27:30-34; Numbers 18:21-32).

2. The Tithe of the Feasts (Deut. 14:22-27).

3. The Tithe for the Poor (Deut. 14:28, 29).

The first tithe, the one we trace back to Abra¬ham (Gen. 14:18-20), is a sacred tithe, given to the High priests in the Old Testament.

Tithe preachers will say:

This is the tithe we continue to give under the priesthood of Melchizedek in the New Testament. It is the tithe consecrated to God and the furtherance of the gospel and has, therefore, validity for all believers in Christ.

Nowhere to be found in the new testament!

It is taken out of the context. Abraham paid tithes yes, but it is absolutely not mentioned that all of us must!! But also Abraham is not Moses and Moses is not Jesus and after Jesus we walk only!

Abraham was asked by the King of Sodom to give his people and Abraham could keep the goods, but Abraham refused and asked only for his man, that nobody could say to Abraham, I have made you rich

We are not suppose to look in any way into the Old testament when it comes to giving, We must follow the teachings of the apostles only and the way Jesus described to give!

Here the law of Moses according to tithes

Livticus 27

30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD's: it is holy unto the LORD.

31 And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof.

32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD.

33 He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.

34 These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai.

Numbers 18

21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.

22 Neither must the children of Israel henceforth come nigh the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die.

23 But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.

24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.

26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.

27 And this your heave offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshing floor, and as the fullness of the winepress.

28 Thus ye also shall offer an heave offering unto the LORD of all your tithes, which ye receive of the children of Israel; and ye shall give thereof the LORD's heave offering to Aaron the priest.

29 Out of all your gifts ye shall offer every heave offering of the LORD, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it.

30 Therefore thou shalt say unto them, When ye have heaved the best thereof from it, then it shall be counted unto the Levites as the increase of the threshing floor, and as the increase of the winepress.

31 And ye shall eat it in every place, ye and your households: for it is your reward for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation.

32 And ye shall bear no sin by reason of it, when ye have heaved from it the best of it: neither shall ye pollute the holy things of the children of Israel, lest ye die.

Nobody was allowed to serve in the tabernacle except the Levites, that was a holy statute of the Lord. The Levites had no heritage of the land. So the Levites were served with 10% of the tithes by the Law of Moses, that they can live and do the service to the Most High God. KJV

Do we have Levites in our churches? NO!

Deuteronomy’s 14

24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:

25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:

26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORDthy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

27 And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.

28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:

29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

What is it then?

Are we in duty to pay tithes as many preachers can dedicate extended sermons on it and make the sheep’s feel bad if they do not?

Tithes are of the Law of Moses!

Through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are free from the law and we shall not to be bound into the law or bind our self into the law as we cannot fulfill it. If you want to fulfill the law there are 316 laws to be fulfilled and if you want to pay tithes, there are as we have seen 3 kinds of tithes which does not make 10 percent but between 23 and 28%. 316 law’s and we won’t even fulfill the one?

These tithes had a purpose!

We do pay tax in our time to our government from all our income to run our country!

Israel of the Old Testament was a religious state, and the tithes where the needed tax to run the nation and the holy service to God,

Later when Israel chose to have a King, the Prophet Samuel was warning them, that the King will take their young men and maids, and will put taxes unto them, so they had the king’s taxes and the law of Moses on their shoulders!

If you bind yourself into tithes, you bind yourself into the law. On the end of this lesson I say what this will mean!

What does the new testament say about tithes?

Simply nothing!

But we look into the Book of Acts 15.

Certain preachers preached to the people to be saved, they must be circumcised,

So Paul and Silas, Judas and Barnabas and others went to Jerusalem to have council with the apostles and elders.

In Verse 5

But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, that it was needful to circumcise them (the gentiles) and to command them, to keep the law of Moses.  KJV

No law, no tithes, no bondage!

As Peter stood up from verse 7 and spoke and concluded in verse

10. Now therefore, why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear!  KJV

After a discussion, Apostle James stood up and gave his speech from verse 13.

In verse 19 and 20 Apostle James suggested,

19. Wherefore my sentence is that we trouble not them, which from among the gentiles are turned to God.

20 “But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood! KJV

It was pleasing all the apostles and elders.

Now look what James is putting on top of the letter, this is an absolute important verse for Christianity. Verse 24:

Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment KJV

In verse 28 and 29 we see clearly the conclusion and the final letter written to the gentiles.

28. For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29. That you abstain from meets offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication, from which if you keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. KJV

This was taken and brought by Judas and Silas, Barnabas and Paul to the churches and this was taught.

Tithes Preachers use Malachi 3

8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts. KJV

God is speaking out of the law of Moses!

Am I a robber and a thief if I do not pay tithes? Tithes preachers already break another commandment in accusing us of theft and robbing, because you shall not make any false accusation against your neighbor!

No, we are not robbers and thief’s, it is the law and we are free from the law!

So tithes were comanded by God to be given to the Levites and the poor also for the 7 fests only!

If i take the tithes I must be either a Levite or a Priest according to the order of Melchezedac.

Levites we do not have and the only priest according to the order of Melchezedac is Jesus Christ and He did in no way command us to keep the law, He has set us free!

So if there are no Levites and no priests' who is now the thief and the robber?

Any teachings about giving tithes and making the sheep’s pay tithes are not of the shepherds of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in no way found of any of the Apostles teachings. Tithes do not belong into Christianity!

Jesus warns us!

Matthew 7

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. KJV

What is it that the tithes preacher wants?  Money!

Those people are not qualified as pastors, prophets or evangelist ect, they have their treasures here on earth. They love money and the love of money is the root of all evil! They fear they do not get enough money into their pockets while Paul teaches us following!

2nd Thessalonians 3

6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:

9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. KJV

There are many so called full time ministers, especially those pastors who suddenly raise a mabati (iron sheet) church and gather 20 people and now they are full time ministers and depend on the brethren eating their money! These are disorderly brothers, hustlers just to mention one example.

Another verse tithe preachers take out of a context is Matthew 22

21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

So they connect this verse with Malachi 3 and make you feel bad!

But the context is this!

15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.

16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.

17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. KJV

Now if they say give to God what belongs to God and mean the tithes, then they must claim all the tithes and all the offerings as sin offering and cleansing offering and burned sacrifices and, and, and 316 laws. But this they do not tell, they want the 10 percent because this is easy to get out of our pockets and nobody will fetch suspicion. They preach so convincing and even mention the Holy Spirit.

Jesus was still in the old covenant under the law and had to fulfill the law and answered accordingly!

Be you not deceived!

Somebody taking out verses out of a context and twisting them for any unbiblical purpose, for example getting more money out of the people. is of satan, he is a devil! And the blind following the blind, will all fall into the pit!

There are even preachers, I have personally heard here in the Philippines a Bishop Santos from a G12 group, He said word by word and all were shouting amen and yeees and clapping!

“I do not care if giving tithes is of the law, I teach this I love giving and every believer must give tithes”

We do not have to give tithes!

Let us look at this verse in 2nd Corintians 9

7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. KJV

Nobody is allowed to make a force upon us to give! No preacher, no pastor, no prophet, no anyone. If we must give tithes, then we must be circumcised, but look into the letter to the Galatians, how Apostle Paul defends the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross and our freedom from the law. So the same freedom applies on tithes, we are free from the law!

If we give, we in the first must give from our heart and according to our possibilities! We cannot give over our possibilities! We look into this a bit later as there are emergency situations.

You shall also not give at all, as long as you have any debts, pay your debts first, God does not want you in debts. If you give and you have debts, the offering is not acceptable to God!

Matthew 5

23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. KJV

If you have a Loan or borrowed from anybody or any other debts to anyone and you have not paid it fully back, you cannot give to God! You want to give God a credit out of your debts?

A young sister of mine, was taking a loan, and gave 10% as her tithes from the loan to the pastor, but the pastor refused, but the sister insisted and the pastor took it! This is wrong, you cannot give to God from a loan, and it is wrong as a servant of God to receive such money!

What if you have debts and the preacher makes you feel bad you do not give enough and they even preach a special offering for a special blessing; and you give a certain amount and tithes and you pay your tax to the government and out of this you cannot pay your debts? You might not be able even to pay your rent, and if you are not able to pay your rent this month, you will not be able to pay your rent next month! Result is, you will be on street. Is this what God wants for you? Or you get a court order because you were not able to serve your bank loan and you are even in prison? Will your pastor bail you out and pay your debt’s who preached tithing to you? I doubt this!

Jesus already warned us as your read above.

Be a good steward of your money, God does not want anything from you, which are over your abilities, or which will harm you on the end! Be wise and open your eyes!

If you have to pay school fees this month and the remaining money is just enough to pay rent and food and all your needs, you don’t have to give, the Lord does not want you to suffer!

Yes it is mentioned that they even gave above their abilities, but this was an emergency for suffering brethren, and God will look into ths matter and restore!

One thing Jesus was teaching us about the Sabbath is.

Luke 12

5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

6 And they could not answer him again to these things. KJV

Meaning, when it comes to life, the law is out and all the command stay aside for the sake of life.

If you need to pay for your life things to sustain you and your children, you do not have to give! You can give, but then it is a sacrifice of something you or your children might need. God does not want your children to sacrifice anything and He does not allow you to sacrifice anything which will affect your children! Jesus sacrificed himself for us!

And let us look to compare another 3 scriptures of Jesus and Paul concerning giving, step by step.

41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. KJV

This we see also fulfilled in the collection for the people of the drought in Jerusalem

1st Cor

16 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.

2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. KJV

2nd Cor 8

3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; KJV

Here we see something which many tithe and prosperity preachers misuse to gain more money from the people

But what it means is, there was a collection for suffering people who have been stripped off everything, and we see it the more in our days that there are many people in this world who are in devastating situations through natural disasters, or war, or family disputes. They are in need of our help, and here God is asking us to act, and if we act abundantly to this into the right channels, God will reward us abundantly!

There we can say, let our children not have jam on the bread but only butter for 3 days. Or let us walk to work if the distance allows it instead of taking the car or the bus.

But be aware, look how Paul was organizing the funds to be collected and to be brought to the people of need!

Always watch and pray and do not give blind!

God has given us a sound mind and wisdom!

Giving is from the heart and not by any yokes in our neck!

Give from your heart with a free will and be aware of the money hungry wolf in sheep skin and dubious organizations.

Something more!

Note: as a member of a assembly or gathering I have the right to see the financial records and to know what is spent for what and where and to whom and for what reason!

If it is denied to me, then something is not right!

Another question is often asked about Mega Churches.

Mega churches are unbiblical; it is all about money and numbers not about the gospel or the sheeps individually anymore. Stay away from these wolf’s.

They say we need a new way to get the youth and reject in it a big portion of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

All must be with flickering light and rock music even necked cowboys singing in there, half necked women standing on the front and leading the program, satanic cartoons are used for teachings and dragon ball pictures and batman figures on birthday cakes are welcome on children’s birthday parties in the church! Homosexuality is tolerated and feminists are chosen to dance in the worship and to decorate the church and the altar!

They preach tithes, have 2 times offering in the service and preach special offerings for special blessings. Now look what they do with the money. Pastor has a private plain, administration palest, luxury houses and cars. No one really knows where the money goes and if a sheep has a need it’s a long process to get anything but be denied.

If the word of God, has not touched somebody to go to a church which sings hymns and takes care of the dressing and brakes bread, but I need to hold them with funny practices, they do not go to church because they love God, but because they love themselves and the church is not a church but a synagogue of deceivers. They have not taken the word of God into their heart!

Jesus said it right

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? KJV

Be careful with whom you walk,

Amos 3

3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? KJV

If we walk with the false people we have agreed to their false preaching and if they perish, we perish with them and there will be

Luke 13

28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. KJV

And here it is what I want to say about those who bind with their tithes into the law

If somebody wants to fulfill the law, which we can’t, but only God did for us. That somebody does deny the sacrifice of the Lord on the cross who freed us from the law. And if anybody teaches us to fulfill part’s of the law for example tithes, and even does not teach the whole issue about tithes and the law, then he does not only deny the sacrifice of the Lord on the cross, but he is the anti Christ!

1st John

18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. KJV

Luke 13

1There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. KJV

There is always space to repent for the preachers who bind yokes on the people with false teachings!

Luke 19 1-10 .. Verse 9 and Zacceas stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. KJV

This is the right way!

What ever you do, do it with love, do it together in prayers making use of the Holy Spirit which is our helper and comforter our convector and reminder of all we have heard from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Giving is important, but we need to learn where to give and to whom and in what way.

For example, it is a big business in Germany to bring poor people from Romania and place them into our streets to beg. The beggar gets nothing, but lives in terrible conditions with not enough food. Giving money would be the wrong thing to do, but giving food, drink, a clothes or shoes, that’s a human act and a giving pleasing the Lord, and the beggar has something from it, or even taking this beggar to a shelter or home! God gave us wisdom!

If you give to the poor, you give to God, if you give to a needy, you give to God, if you feed a beggar, you do it to Christ, if you help your neighbor to eat with his family for a time in need you do it to God, If you help a servant of God in need or that he is able to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in a remote area, you give to God and you sow a seed planted for yourself. If you take an orphan in, you take Jesus in, if you give in your congregation to support the preaching of the Gospel, you collect immeasurable treasures in heaven, because you do not know how many souls will be saved through it in our time and maybe through them in the time even after us.

If I am rich with goods and money, let me use these riches with wisdom, a part of it for the kingdom of God!

Many people in churches are rich and support the saints and the gospel, what if they all sale everything and give everything and cannot give anymore but become needy. Everybody has a call and a purpose, let us fulfill this call and its purpose for the glory of God! Be a good steward!

But if you over give and cannot sustain yourself and your family, you are lost and a bad steward.

Many good on the Lord founded churches, have projects, and help in many ways. These issues should made be known to all the members and the need of money toward it. Funds should be collected by constantly reminding the members of the need and the reward. Not to forget, to update the members on the progress and success of the giving’s. This motivates and shows that we as a church are based on the teachings of Christ and the apostles. This is a biblical collecting of money. A emergency fund should also be established!

Conclusion:

If we want to know about giving, we need to concentrate on only the New Testament!

Neither the Apostles of the early church have commanded to keep the law or man made traditions to bind people nor do I command such thing and say;

Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must pay tithes and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment

Acts 15 : 28 - 29

28. For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29. That you abstain from meets offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication, from which if you keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. KJV

And that if you give, give as your heart touches you to give and as it is needed in many emergency situations. Giving does not mean only giving in the church.

If you have given somewhere, where it was needed and you have no means of giving in the church, but only what you need for life, do not be troubled, you already gave to God! Do not have a heavy mind and let no one make you feel bad!

And who says, that ot is only money to be given? offerings are food, clothes, needed things, teaching materials, furnitures and so on.

May the love of our Lord Jesus Christ abide in you and may He lead and guide you in all your ways!
